Car Color Popularity

Above is a video I created at a local parking lot.  It displays the different vehicle colors which I will be comparing to Forbes’ list of top ten car colors.  I would like to give a special thanks to everyone I interviewed.  So, let’s get started with my top five list of colors.

1. White

White seemed to be the most prominent color in the parking lot.  I understand why the color is popular.  The Cadillac Escalade to the left looks great!  It is usually less expensive than a special color such as blue or green and allows the car to stay cooler while in sunlight.  Also, white is a durable paint that lasts, but easily gets dirty.  White stands out at night compared to a darker color when headlights shine on it.

Overall, although this is a popular color, I am not a fan of white because it takes away from the chrome accents on the car.  With a darker or poppier color, the chrome draws the eye to your car and makes you stand out.  In my observations, white seemed to be the most prominent color, and Forbes’ list confirmed my findings about number one.

 2. Black

As in Forbes’ list  black is the second top vehicle color.  Black is my favorite color because it stands out with the chrome accents, but also blends in with the crowd when on the road.  Similarly to white, black is a standard color, if non-metallic, and should not cost the consumer any more to purchase.  With multiple different shades of blacks including metallic flake paints, there are multiple colors to choose from.

As in my video, one of the interviewees like matte black, a less shiny black.  This color makes the car look sporty and fast.  Most black vehicles show less dirt than white, saving the consumer money with less frequent car washes.  Also, the Journal.ie discusses how black vehicles have higher sale prices for used cars as well as the pros and cons of owning a black car.

3. Silver

Silver seemed to be the third choice in the parking lot which matches Forbes’ list   According to CarsDirect  silver similarly to black has an higher sale price for used cars and always seems clean.  Silver gives the car a sporty, metallic, futuristic look and feel.

Although this color is popular, some feel that it is not as interesting as a bright red or lime green.  Personally, silver seems like an old color unlike a sporty blue or green since it has been around for a long time.

4. Grey

Grey vehicles are also a great vehicle color choice that stands out from the crowd.  It almost always looks clean and can have metallic flakes to add a shiny, eye-catching feature.

Similarly to stainless steel appliances  the color adds a modern and futuristic look for any car.  Although this color is interesting, some shades can be a little bland and blend into the road.

5. Other Colors

Overall, there are many great colors to choose from.  Whether it be red, green, blue, or purple each choice is based on a few factors including which color speaks to you and the price.

For different colors, there could be additional costs that will raise the overall vehicle price.  To read more about what colors say about you, click here!  Also, for further information, click here.
