Reasons SUV Sales are on the Rise
Currently the sales of SUVs are on the rise and sedans are slowly declining. Sixty percent of the total market is dominated by SUVs according to Forbes. Previously, the amount of SUV sales were half that of cars and sedans. This allows for an increase in automakers’ profits because the SUVs have a higher MSRP. Lower gas prices and drivers’ attraction to redesigned cars allow for an increase in SUVs sold. According to the Los Angeles Times, SUVs are favored due to their roominess and elevation off the ground. Also, the fuel economy in both types of vehicles is comparable, so there is no difference in cars’ and SUVs’ MPG. Honda’s CR-V is the most popular SUV with a total of 356,335 on the road.
In an NPR interview, it was stated how difficult it is for a driver to move from an SUV back to a car with the much lower seats. Younger people are also attracted to smaller SUVs because they have special designs that allow for uniqueness. This can be seen in the Ford Escape and the Toyota Rav-4. They are sportier with sharper lines. Although larger vehicles are favored in the U.S., this is not the case for other countries such as China and Brazil.
Auto Shows Featuring SUVs
SUVs have been the main focus of the Chicago Auto Show according to Duluth Reader. There was an array of SUVs from many countries. Ford, Kia, Honda, Nissan, Alfa Romeo, BMW, Jaguar, Hyundai, and many more auto manufacturers participated in creating small SUVs to keep up with the competition. Many vehicles are entirely new such as the Toyota C-HR and the Alfa Romeo Stelvio. These complemented the vast collection of smaller SUVs. For further research of the best SUVs visit US News.
