The Hyundai Kona

Today, I’m going to discuss the new Hyundai Kona’s design, exterior and interior, and technological features.  I would like to give a special thanks to Burns Hyundai who let me test drive this great vehicle.  So, let’s get started

Exterior

Hyundai did a great job designing this unique vehicle.  It stands out from the crowd with the sharp LED running lights and large grill.  The large headlights connected to the fender draw the eye around the vehicle.  With the Ultimate selection, chrome outlining is added to the lights and grill.  The rear looks just as great as the front.  It reminds me of the Alfa Romeo Stelvio which is almost $20,000 more for a base model.

The one exterior element that I feel was lacking is the old-fashioned antenna. Nowadays, vehicles have sporty antennas that unify the car.  The Kona’s antenna reminded me of what you might find on a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee because it just stuck out and did not fit the overall look of the car.

Overall, Hyundai really hit the mark with this car, and I understand why it is one of the highest selling Hyundais.

Interior

Hyundai did just as well on the interior as the exterior. On my favorite model, the Ultimate, you have the choice between plain leather or leather with lime green accents seen to the right.  The front seats were comfortable for me at six foot six to sit in.  The buttons were easily accessible, and the radio sounded great.

I loved the steering wheel because it was soft and flexible, so you can hold it however you like.  The one thing I did not like is that for almost $27,000, you cannot get powered seats.

Also, this vehicle was very peppy and fun to accelerate. The brake pedal was very stiff.  I don’t know whether it will get easier with use, but that is one factor I did not like.  The emergency brake is a pull lever, which I like, but some may feel is outdated.

Overall, Hyundai did a great job designing this sporty interior keeping up with my expectations from the exterior.

Technological Features

The Hyundai utilizes some great, technologically advanced features   I love the heads up display and the Remote Start with Blue Link.  Blue Link can even control the locks via your phone and tell you about how your car is functioning.  The ability to wirelessly charge your phone is a great feature to have in the Kona because then you don’t need any cords.

The large touchscreen is great with the compatibility of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.  The safety features include “Lane Keeping Assist,” Blind-Spot Monitoring, and “Driver Attention Warning,” so your car can notify you about your safety.  My favorite feature is the “Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection” because the vehicle can both alert you about a possible incident and then brake if necessary.

Overall, Hyundai hit the mark with this vehicle and added great safety and technological features to an already unique and sporty design.   For another review of the Kona, Click Here.
